U-Pick

We happily accept cash, check or e transfer.  We are currently unable to accept debit or credit cards

Just a brief note of explanation, as we are a small family farm when things get busy here we are all outside helping our guests and picking produce. We do not have much time to check facebook, voice mail or email during the day. We try, but sometimes we just cannot get out of the field. If you phone our berry line, 403-507-8994 most likely we will not be around to answer it. If you have a question please leave a message and we get back to you as soon as we can. Phil

Sept 18,

We have some of our super sweet cherry tomatoes and peppers left in the greenhouse, but I am not sure how long they will last.  The strawberries have been froze a couple of times this last week, so I think that they are finished for the season.  We have lots of chicken, saskatoons and some pitted sour cherries in the freezer, we also have fresh eggs and our organically grown milling wheat available.  We are open by appointment, so if you would like to make an appointment to come pick up some of our great tasting produce, you can email phil@saskaberryranch.com or give us a call at 403-507-8994 and leave us a message.  I also will be coming into Cochrane and Calgary to bring our produce to you in our off season, so if you would like an email notification of when I am coming through, just send us an email and ask to be put on the notification list.

Sept 4, Labour Day

We will be open today, and we still have everything that was mentioned in the last post.

Aug 28,

We still have sour cherries, and  lots of cherry tomatoes, and some cucumbers and peppers in the greenhouses. We also have lots of pastured chicken and saskatoons in the freezer, and fresh eggs as well.  As school is about to start, we are changing our hours to “open by appointment”.  So if you would like to make an appointment to come pick up some of our great tasting produce, you can email phil@saskaberryranch.com or give us a call at 403-507-8994 and leave us a message.

Aug 25,

We still have sour cherries, but this will likely be the last weekend for them. We have lots of cherry tomatoes, and some cucumbers and peppers in the greenhouses. We also have lots of pastured chicken and saskatoons in the freezer, and fresh eggs as well. The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend, so pack a picnic lunch and come on out and enjoy the day.  We are open until 6 today and 9-6 on Saturday, and back to appointments again next week.

Aug 18,

Farm Update, we still lots of sour cherries and cherry tomatoes, we have a few raspberries left, and we have some cucumbers and peppers. We also have LOTS of frozen saskatoons and chickens, and we have eggs in the fridge so we are not quite catching them right out of the chickens.   There are a few blossoms on the strawberries so that is showing promise for September. We are switching to our fall hours, so we are now open 9-6 Friday and Saturday and by appointment Monday through Thursday.

Aug 14,

Despite the promises of the weather forecast, we still have not gotten any rain. So while that is bad news for us, it is great news for you as that means the conditions are excellent for picking berries. We have lots of delicious sour cherries, sweet raspberries (thought the plants and berries are a little smaller), cherry tomatoes, peas and some cucumbers and peppers. And we have eggs in the fridge again so hopefully we will not run out of eggs again. We also have lots of frozen chicken and saskatoons in the freezer.

Aug 12,

SALE!
I need space in our freezers as they are full of chickens and saskatoons and I still need to put more chickens in yet this summer and I am wanting to freeze a bunch of our delicious sour cherries as well, so I am offering 5% off our chickens if you buy 20 and 10% off if you buy 40. A great way to stock up for winter!

Aug 11,

After 4 weeks of delicious saskatoon picking, I would say that our saskatoon season is finally finished. But do not fear, we picked a lot and put them in the freezer, so if you are wanting frozen saskatoons, we have them. We still have a lot of sour cherries on the bushes, a greenhouse with lots of super sweet cherry tomatoes, there are a few raspberries left, and the peas are finally ready. We have lots of frozen chickens and we have fresh eggs in the fridge. The weather forecast for this Friday and Saturday looks great, so come on out and get your farm fresh produce before the rain comes next week.

Aug 7,

Just a picking update, we still have lots of sour cherries, and some ripe raspberries. There still are some fresh saskatoons on the bushes and we have lots of frozen ones. We have lots of chicken as well, but we have caught up to the laying hens, so we will not have much for eggs today. There are some cherry tomatoes in the greenhouse, but the cucumbers and peppers got picked pretty good on Saturday so there may not be much that you would consider as being worth $1 each. But the weather is lovely, so come on out and enjoy a day in the country.

July 30,

My apologies, I have not kept this page as updated as it should be.  We still have lots of saskatoons, though in the bottom patch we are getting some overripe ones.  The sour cherries are ready and are super easy to pick.  We also have a lot of ripe raspberries, but they are a little smaller than normal.  Our first strawberry crop is pretty much finished, and hopefully we will get our second crop starting early in September.  The cherry tomatoes are just starting and the cucumbers and peppers are close.  We have lots of our frozen chicken and we have caught up to our laying hens, so our eggs are super fresh, but also in limited supply.

July 22,

Just a quick update, we still have lots of saskatoons, but not many ripe raspberries or strawberries.  The sour cherries I think still need a little more time, but maybe that is just personal taste.  We do have lots of eggs and chicken as well.

July 19th afternoon,

We still have loaded saskatoon bushes that I’m sure no one has even picked one off of yet, so they are just loaded and the bushes look black with all the fruit on them.  We also have some raspberries that are ready, but they may get picked very soon, but there likely will be more ready tomorrow.  Also, if you like the really sour, sour cherries we have some that you could start picking.  I personally would wait a few more days, but for those of you who like things tart, I think they are ready to start.  Sorry, they are ripening a little faster than I anticipated.

July 18,

We still have a LOT of saskatoons and the picking is amazing!  The ripe strawberries are currently picked, but more are coming.  The raspberries should be starting by the weekend, and the maybe even some cherry tomatoes.  The peppers and cucumbers and sour cherries are a little bit yet.  We also have pickers picking for us, so if you want some pre picked saskatoons, let me know and we will hang onto some for you.  The pre picked are $4 a pound instead of $3 a pound if you pick.  And we still have lots of pastured chicken and eggs as well.

July 13 pm,

We are open  and the saskatoon picking is phenomenal!  I am somewhere around 15-20 minutes a pail.  Even my son was surprised at how fast he could pick a pail.  It is amazing out in the patch, and more are ripening all the time!  We still have some super tasty strawberries and they even smell delicious, but as they are on the ground hiding from the birds, ( lol) it takes a little more effort than it used to take when they were up on the raised beds.

July 8,

With all the heat we have been enjoying, the fruit is ripening faster than expected.  So we will be opening July 13th, and we will be open 9-6 Mondays through Saturday.  We will have saskatoons, some strawberries, fresh eggs and frozen chicken and wheat berries.  The raspberries, sour cherries, and veggies will be a bit yet.  Also our strawberries are not on the raised bed system this year and as we have an abundance of weeds I don’t recommend flip flops or sandals for strawberry picking.

June 21, 2017

The first day of Summer!  We are planning on opening for upick mid July, I’m guessing somewhere around the 15th to 20th depending on the weather and how fast things ripen.  Over the course of the summer we will have, saskatoons, strawberries, raspberries, sour cherries, rhubarb, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, peas, potatoes, carrots, onions, lamb, and organically grown wheat berries.  We have currently lots of eggs, and as of early July we will have our free range chickens ready as well.  Hopefully I am better this summer at updating this page than I have been over the winter.  lol  You can also follow us on facebook at The Saskaberry Ranch.   If you have any questions, you can email us at phil@saskaberryranch.com or give us a call at 403-507-8994.  Hope to see you soon.

Aug 29,

As of now we have some strawberries and fresh eggs, and LOTS of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, peas, beans and free range chickens.  We are open Monday-Thursday by appointment and 9-6 Friday and Saturday.  We will also be open 9-6 this holiday Monday.

Aug 24,

Wow, I haven’t updated for a while, but up until now there has not been much change.  There are a few raspberries, sour cherries, and strawberries left, and we have lots of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, peppers, and peas.  And as a pleasant surprise, the late beans I planted are now ready as well.  We also have a few dozen eggs in the fridge with more every day, lots of chicken in the freezer and milling wheat ready to go.  And if you buy 40 chickens we’ll give you 10% off the chickens.

Aug 4 p.m.

It is with sadness I inform you that our saskatoon season is finished for the season.  Currently though we have some ripe raspberries, sour cherries, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, peppers, and peas.  There are also a few small strawberries out there.  We also have a few dozen eggs in the fridge, and lots of chicken in the freezer.  And if you buy 40 chickens we’ll give you 10% off the chickens.  What a deal!  Time to fill the freezers for winter.

Aug 1 p.m.

It has been a very busy weekend!  A big thanks to everyone who came out and supported our family farm and purchased lots of tasty treats.  For those of you who were unable to make it out, we still have some saskatoons left, but their season is almost finished and the picking is getting slow.  As to our strawberries, raspberries, sour cherries, cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers, they will need a few days to ripen/mature.  We still have lots of frozen chicken though, and our trusty hens keep laying eggs for us so we will continue to have eggs on a “as laid” basis.  We are doing our best to listen to your suggestions and comments and hopefully we will have the time/energy/ and resources to put them into practice next summer.

July 29 p.m.

We still have saskatoons, but the saskatoons picking is getting slower as the season approaches the end.  We also have some ripe sour cherries ready, but the strawberries and raspberries keep getting picked so there isn’t much ripe there.  We do have some peppers, and cherry tomatoes ready though and the freezers have lots of tasty chickens ranging from 3 to 7 lbs in them.  We have caught up to the laying hens so eggs are sold on a as laid basis.

July 28

We still have lots of saskatoons ready, and I am hoping we will have them until the middle of next week.  We also have some ripe sour cherries ready, but the strawberries and raspberries keep getting picked so there isn’t much ripe there.  We do have some cucumbers, peppers, and cherry tomatoes ready though and the freezers have lots of tasty chickens ranging from 3 to 7 lbs in them.  We have caught up to the laying hens so eggs are sold on a as laid basis.

July 22 p.m.

We still have lots of saskatoons, but the ripe strawberries and raspberries are currently picked out.  But do not fear, more are ripening.  The veggie greenhouse still needs a bit of time for the cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes but they are coming.  The first cherries will likely be ready the middle of next week.  We still have lots of yummy chickens and eggs though, so don’t forget to grab yours.

July 16, 2016

WE ARE OPEN!  We are starting this season with upick saskatoons, and free range chicken and eggs.  Hopefully the rest will be ready soon.

July 14, 2016

The weather has proved challenging again for us, so far we have had two rounds of hail and -5 twice in early May after the blossoms were out and that has impacted out total volume of strawberries and saskatoons coming for this summer.  We had been looking at opening July 22, but I was out in the saskatoon rows today and they are ripening a lot quicker than I expected.  So we will be opening this Saturday, July 16th instead.  We have saskatoons, frozen chicken, and fresh eggs.  The strawberries, raspberries and cherries will be ripening later and hopefully the produce in the greenhouses will be ready soon.

June 3,

Upick update: While in some ways spring came early this year, it seems that the only crop we have that will be early is saskatoons and they should be ready mid July. Everything in the greenhouses will hopefully be ready then as well, and our first batch of free range chickens will be in the freezer. Sadly due to the NDP’s bill 6, it is now illegal for me to hire the local neighbour kids to help plant our strawberries. So while backyard strawberries are starting to ripen, I have just finished planting ours so they will hopefully be starting mid July as well.  We currently have lots of free range eggs though, and a few frozen free range chickens are still available to get you through to the new crop.
